Day lilies

This post will travel in words first but it was what I saw that helped me write. Here they are, the day lily plants parched. The long strap like leaves placing all their strength into stalks with flowers. Each stalk can carry from 10 to 20 buds which open in succession providing a steady display of blooms. Ten days ago when arriving home I picked three stalks and kept them when the spear thistle had spent its time. Each day there was a lily from one of the stalks. The heat was intense against the wall so yesterday I brought in about 11 stalks.

The colours on the different flowers range from the muted earthy hues of rust, burnt and sienna, then lighter creamier versions apricot and cantalope with yellow tones amber and saffron. Historically, before the fruit, orange, was introduced to Europe from Asia, English speakers didn’t have a dedicated word for this colour and referred to it as ‘ yellow- red’.

I placed this handful in a clear tear drop shaped vase and photographed them at different times.

Here they are with two positive quotes using the word replacement and with a negative quote but unfortunately true in the centre.

Here is the first thought from Matsuri Hino a Japanese manga artist. ‘ No one can be a replacement for another person. That is why, farewells are always difficult.’

And the nasty quote from an unknown author: ‘ They replace you fast because you never were their priority.’

Then I was curious about this quote using replace.

Replace what you don’t know about the future with what you know about God.

This was written by Christine Caine. Who is she? This was the answer I found. Caine and her husband Nick are best known for founding

The A21 Campaign

It is a non-profit, non- governmental organization that combats human trafficking around the globe. Caine also founded Propel Women, a Christian women’s organization.

These are the countries it functions in Australia, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Denmark, Greece,Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Ukraine, the United Kingdom.

I then asked what does the Bible help me to know about God.

Here are three texts with photographs of this new morning with new flowers just starting to open.

Be still, and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 46 :10

He that says, I know Him and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and there is no truth in Him.

Jesus speaking strongly in

1John 2:4

God speaking: I love those who love me; and those who look for me early shall find me.

Proverbs 8:17

The jug holds a flower from 10 days ago.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

  1. Lovely thoughts about replacement. I especially like the thought of replacing worries for the future with what we know about God ❤️🙏💟
