Three plants two daffidols

I didn’t now that Jesus was quoting from the Old Testament when He spoke these words.

(I will give both: first from the Old Testament then Jesus speaking.)

‘ You must not avenge, nor carry any grudge against the children of your people, but you must love your neighbour as yourself.’

Leviticus 19 :18

Jesus speaking: ‘ Honour your father and mother: and, you must love your neighbour as yourself.’

Matthew 19:19

Another blogger helped me to see that this was said 8 times in the Bible. ( Here are the other 6 Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31, Luke 10: 27-28, Romans 13:9, Galations 5:14, James 2:8.)

Now for a walk into the garden. It is 8.07 and 4 C. Here are three plants: the Sweet Williams, grape hyacinths and the Day lillies.

The Sweet Williams I grew from seed and planted them out in October 2025. Notice their green to gloucous tapered leaves. These will grow more, 4 – 10cm long and 1- 2cm broad. The flowers will form in clusters of up to 30 at the top of the stem. The seed packet has what I am looking forward to, white and maroon flowers on seprate plants. They say they have a spicy clove-like scent.

The small new Sweet William plant.

The Muscari/grape hyacinths. Their narrow leaves have made a mat but the flower spikes have not succumbed to all the rain. They will be a very dark blue. The garden hasn’t got the pale blue. Their bulbs have been coming up for at least 33 years.

The day lilies have thrived. The warmth and sunshine along the kitchen wall is good now but in the summer they suffer with too much sun.

Now for small snails. I think we will have a lot this year. The first two daffidols to open fell with all the rain and were soon covered in small snails.

Here they are with their shadows. The sun came out for a few minutes and now it is covered in clouds.

‘ Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.’

Helen Keller

‘ Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it , casts the shadow of our burden behind us.’

Samuel Smiles

Have a good time of day whenever you read this.

  1. Thank you for the daffodil photo. I love them, and the street we live on is called Daffodil Drive. However, it’s too hot to grow them here. So seeing your picture–all your beautiful photo so a real treat.

  2. I love the quote from Helen Keller👏🙏
Definitely we shall see many slugs and snails after all this rain. That should keep us investigating the garden closely 😜😂
