Here is a simple story that the people didn’t understand so Jesus told the meaning as well.
Let us look at the meaning first in these thoughts given by Jesus:
I am the door. Robbers and thieves use other ways to enter the sheep fold. If they enter through Me they will go in and out and find pasture. Those who come in a different way come to steal, destroy and kill. I come to give abundant life. I am the good shepherd who gives His life for the sheep. The hired person, who doesn’t own them runs away when the wolf comes to kill and scatter the sheep. I am the good shepherd I know my sheep and they know Me. Other sheep I have which are not in this fold: I must bring them. They will hear my voice, and their will be one fold and one shepherd.
My Father, God, loves me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes my life , I lay it down myself. I have power to lay it down of myself and take it again. (Sandy’s summary John 10: 7 – 18)
The story in brief is about a shepherd and his sheep. These are the points made.
The person who uses the door into the sheep fold is the shepherd. Thieves and robbers climb in another way. The sheep know the shepherds voice and he goes ahead of them and leads them out ( he doesn’t drive them out). The sheep will not follow a stranger because they don’t know his voice.
