Here is one of several people called James from the Bible speaking:
‘ Confess your mistakes to each other, and pray for each other, that you may be made well. The effectual prayer of a righteous person (availeth much) has the power to produce a desired result.’
James 5: 16
There are two words used effectual and availeth.
First effectual: having power to produce a desired result.
Second availeth: helps, benefits, is useful, is of advantage, profits, serves, improves, assists, is effective.
Amazing!
Then this: ‘ People who strive for eloquent language and make long prayers are entirely out of place. The eloquence that God accepts is the earnest cry of the soul which feels that it MUST have help.’
EG White ( a story in Luke 18:9 – 14 illustrates this.)
This post is a visit to the Cow Pond near Virginia Water and our pond at home.
Some facts about pond/ water lilies that help us understand what we see. First, they open in the morning and close in late afternoon / early evening. Then a cloudy or rainy day may cause them to open later than usual.
Secondly, they last 3 to 5 days before sinking below the water’s surface. They bloom from June to September.
The Cow Pond
‘ This ornamental pond is one of the few remaining elements from the large formal , early 18th-century, landscaping scheme which radiated out from Cumberland Lodge which was inspired by gardens such as Versailles and Het Loo.’

Let us look more closely.

A group visiting particularly to see the display says it is the weather has delayed them. I think a visit on a sunny day would help as there are many buds.
Our home pond.
I was thrilled to see the miniature pond lily had its first flower.

I hope it lasts for days. I will watch.
If you are interested in knowing about the fish. I saw one. They are not fed but I have watched them catch pond scaters.

Two quotes which take the word pond:
‘ A field of water betrays the spirit that is in the air. It is continually receiving new life and motion from above. It is between land and sky.’ David Thoreau
And
‘ A fool can throw a stone in a pond that 100 wise people can not get out.’
Saul Bellow
Take care,
Sandy 🙂
The water lilies are lovely! And I always enjoy reading about the meanings of the words you come across–you have a way of finding the deeper meanings in life, too. Thank you!
Thank you 😊 I love teaching myself. I find I know so little.
