Commandment 2
God speaking: ‘ I am a jealous God don’t carve anything in any likeness and then bow to it.’ ( This is Sandy’s summary it is in full in Exodus 20: 4,5,6. I once offered to buy a cross for a friend, since I travel a lot and I like second hand shops. The offer was declined as ‘ wood has memory.’ I had never thought of this.)
Here I will give my first impressions of a city in four photographs: a lake, a tree, a museum and the mountains.

Annecy , the pearl of the French Alps, lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy. Its calm clear waters framed by trees.

A fine enormous tree.
One of many but one that is widely regarded as a living fossil.
It is said that in China there are specimens exceeding 3,000 years in age.
This tree is long lived, disease resistant , dioecious (from ancient Greek ‘ dioecy’ two households. Only the female directly produces off spring) .
Trees were everywhere in the city so pleasant on a hot day 30ºC. Annecy has an oceanic climate despite its relatively far inland position.

This is a 12 century castle on an island in the river Thiou in Annecy’s administrative headquarters. A prison during World War II and now a local history museum.

The surrounding mountains are:
Mont Veyrier
Mont Semnoz
La Tournette
Pamelan
Welcome to Annecy.
‘ Small cheer and great welcome make a merry feast.’
William Shakespeare
‘ Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.’
Take care,
Sandy 🙂
A pearl indeed! What a beautiful place👏 I love them and we saying by Willam Shakespeare 🙏
Thank you. We enjoyed our time in Annecy.
