Angelica and rhubarb

Here are three linked thoughts from David, James, and Malachi. In places I have made it my own.

David: ‘You God laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens You made with your hands. They will perish, but You, God, will last/endure. They will get old like clothes but you will change them like we change our clothes. You are the same, and your years have no end.’ Psalm 102 : 25-27

James speaking: ‘ Every perfectly good gift is from above, and comes from the Father of lights, who doesn’t vary or change.’

James 1:17

God speaking:

I am the Lord, I change not.

Malachi 3: 6

With these thoughts, I looked at change.

Yesterday and today together.

Yesterday’s tulips were still in place as I hurridly placed the pitcher of angelica next to them. I was working in the garden and had to reduce the Angelica because it was crowding another plant less able to go into competition for light. I looked at both the vase and the pitcher and thought : ‘ That is yesterday and today.’

‘ I am not afraid of tomorrow for I have seen yesterday and I love today.’

William Allen White

Angelica comes up every year. It is a smaller plant than it first was, but that may be because it is confined to a bricked raised bed. Over the years, it has died in one part and come up in another. It’s hollow stems can be dried and used as drinking straws, or while green sugared to make cake decorations. I personally like it for the shape of the leaves and smell.

I then worked with the rhubarb and mint. They have been doing well. I took off about one-third of the stalks for rhubarb crumble.

Chopped in small pieces and with a bit of orange juice, it went into 180⁰C oven. When nearly cooked, the rhubarb got a topping of: oats, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and butter, all crumbled.  It went  back in the oven to turn golden brown. The fleshy red pink stalks were a great gift from the garden.

Strange thing is I know mint should be confined in a pot to prevent it from spreading, but I like it going wild, and I have protected three plants in pots. They will be my markers, no mint beyond this point.

Here are three thoughts:

‘ Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.’

Will Rogers

‘A person who studies revenge keeps their own wounds green.’

Francis Bacon

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do! 🤣

It is sunny again!

Have a lovely day. Whatever time of day it is.
