Black thorn/Prunus spinosa

God speaking:”Call me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you don’t know. “

We can choose what we think, and those thoughts shape who we are.

David speaking: ” Your Word God is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Sandy says time spent with the Bible and prayer is a great comfort.

Walking through fields, we first see the blackthorn blossom with a bare oak tree in the distance.  Coming closer, the sound of bees is a treat. We then enter Pope’s Meadow. It is good to see the young trees with a newly planted wildflower meadow all around them.  A safe way to keep dogs and balls away from this area. Here are three photographs of the meadow today.

The difference between Black thorn and Hawthorn:

Black thorn gets its flowers first, then leaves.

Hawthorn turns green and then white.

White five- petaled flowers with plenty of buds
on each thorny branch.

The wood of the black thorn is dense and good for making fires. The shrub/tree is deciduous and grows well in hedge rows, scrubland, and open fields.

This is taken at 11:15 am.
Our weather is said to be really good this week, and I expect there will be a host more bees.

I enjoyed looking and painting four enormous oaks dwarfed by the blossom in the foreground and the bright hedge of it in the background. Needless to say, this area will change very soon and be leafy green.

The Blackthorn of the meadow.

A tree I want to see in bloom is this gnarled and twisted tree at the pond. It suffered during heavy winds and has featured in other posts. I want to have its pink blossom registered in one of my posts, so with warm weather I will take notice of it this week. Today, I saw the first buds.

The twisted tree hangs over the pond.

Let’s travel with three quotes:

‘ Talent is always conscious of its own abundance and does not object to sharing.’

‘ Abundance is not something we acquire it is something we tune into.’

‘ What is called genius is the abundance of life and health.’

Aleksandr Saloszhenitsynd,Wayne Dyer, Henry Danid Thoreau.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

  1. I love your painting, as I was scrolling through your lovely photos of landscapes I was thinking you could do a landscape like David Hockney.

I also love David, the Psalmist’s words about god’s word being a lamp unto our feet 💓🐾
