our reflections dark against a grey sea.
We wait for the ferry.
” Would you please stay with your vehicles.” This message with others crosses a board in bright orange lights in capital letters. “
We stay.
There are 126 miles to cross in about six hours. The English Channel is:
Max length 560km / 350miles
Max width 240km / 150 miles
Surface Area 75,000 / 29,000 Square miles.
We wait for the ferry it is late.
How deep should the mind in thought be? How large and bright do the capital letters of life’s words need to be?⁹
Why?
To make sense of the everyday.
We sit on the ferry named Mont St. Michel, our reflections in the large splashed windows surrounded by all forms of grey. Ourselves skimmed by lamp shade light, orange, and yellow.
The slow movement of the ferry carries us into a darker night, no grey sea, just a gentle rocking from the depths. It’s a smooth crossing for us tonight.
From Portsmouth to Caen on an autumn November night.
Here are some uses with the word depth:
‘ If someone’s behaviour plumbs the depths, it is extremely bad.’
‘ If someone is out of their depth, it means they haven’t got the knowledge or experience or skills to deal with a particular subject.’
And a quote from George Orwell:
” We have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.”

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
We are travelling.
The days are short, and my posts may be erratic, but you are welcome to share this new experience of winter travel with us.
Sandyroybessbugzy. 🙂❤️😘🤗
My husband and I crossed the English Channel way back in 1959 on a GI trip to London. Many were quite sick (or close to it) from tha motion of the ferry. We were glad to see those ‘white cliffs of Dover’!!
Enjoy your trip! Lois
I’m so glad to have you share your times as we have ours. Thank you, Lois, and I hope you share more. Sandy.
