Bess

He / Jesus is touched with the feeling of our weakness, He went through so much without sin so we can be brave in His grace and find plenty of mercy when we need it. Hebrews 5:15,16 ( I made it my own. It may not read the same to you.)

Because we love Bess or because Bess loves us!

Here is the first of my posts about Bess. They will come intermittently.

In this post, I will say who she is and why, when, and how we got her.

Bess is a roan Spaniel, and she is the one who first started travelling with us around England as a puppy. She then took on France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and just recently Scandinavia .

Her love for Bugzy is immense. After taking the grey covers off of Bugzy this time, to pack for Scandinavia, Bess was almost immediately through the front door, up the high step of the cab, and sitting in the front seat. There has been no barking at motorbikes as Patches did or being car sick as my childhood dogs sometimes were. She is a good traveller.

The why we got her is simple we love spaniels, our Jacob had died 5 or 6 years earlier. I don’t think this post is going to plan. I wrote his name without introducing him in a proper way.

Jacob was chosen by my son. We were a household of two adults and two very close to being adults, four of us with Jacob and an amazing character Columbus, our older cat who owned Jacob.

Jacob lived a full life of many long walks. He was diagnosed as a puppy with a congential heart problem. I asked the question of what signs must we look for if life is not going well for him. The answer:

‘He will collapse.’

Jacob was there until he wasn’t.

All black with brown eyebrows and nose, then brown socks on his feet. A handsome, expressive dog.

Roy was out walking with him, Jacob went down, and didn’t get up. Roy carried him home. We phoned the vet, and in a few days, he lay sleeping by the pond in a sunny favourite spot and ,with the help of the vet, went to sleep.

It is difficult to return to Bess, but here is the answer to when she was born.

Bess was born on 20/2/2020.  She is three circles of love and has three of us in love with her.

I think the how will have to wait. This has been hard. I knew when I wrote JACOB I couldn’t just write Bess.

So Bess has followed Jacob, Jacob followed Patches and Patches, followed our first dog, Purdy.

Some sayings about tears:

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and unspeakable love.

Washington Irving

Tears come from the heart and not the brain.

Leonardo da Vinci

Tears are the silent language of grief.

Voltaire

Thank you to a kind blogger who helped me remember that dogs are amazing to write about, even if they make for tear filled eyes.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
