Roskilde

The deciples were focused looking up into heaven, watching Jesus go from earth when two men dressed in white asked a question: “Why are you looking up into heaven?

This same Jesus, who is taken from you, will come in the same way as you have seen Him go up into heaven.”

Acts 1: 11

We are moving through countries quickly now. Our Norwegian adventure with a shorter period of  enjoyment of Sweden and a taste of Denmark are now over. Roskilde was our second and last city in Denmark.

Roskilde is 30 km west of Copenhagen on the Danish island of Zealand. I will comment on the past home of Danish motor sport, the Cathedral, the Market Square, and end with the rain.

Our park up was free and next to the park that once was the Roskilde ring, home of Danish motorsport. These stones were close by with no evidence to us of the curcuit. The town was a pleasant mile to walk.

Once in the town, the UNESCO-listed Gothic Cathedral takes up a large chunk of sky. It now houses 40 tombs of the Danish  Royal family, the latest of which is the cenotaph prepared for Queen Margaretta.

An enormous structure to fit into a photograph.
The Gothic Cathedral of Roskilde.

The square and the market were delightful.

Here was a surprise it was called:

The painter’s Flower Carpet.

And this is what was written on a sign:

Press on the photograph to read how the artist Gustav Klint’s paintings inspired this planting of low and tall zinias with different grasses. The climber on the wall is Thunbergia.
There were two beds a mass of bright red, orange, yellow and white.

The market area was to the left of these flowers.  It was early in the day, and they  were  setting up the stalls.

I will end with a video of rain in this pleasant town. Our weather demands attention when it is so changeable and dramatic. From sun to this in a few hours.

Rosklide in the rain.
And my appreciation of the planting in Roskilde Denmark.

Goodbye,

Scandinavia.

Ps

“Saying goodbye doesn’t mean anything. It’s the time we spent together (Scandinavia) that matters, not how we left it.”

Chickery flowers and others.
Picked by the side of the road in Denmark.

I hope you continue with us as we travel back to England.

Take care,

  1. Loved all the pictures of flowers.
The flowers in the vase too. We get them both in the cape – chicory and geranium molle. Beautiful.
