God is talking: ” Let us settle this. Though your sins are the colour of scarlet, I will make them white like snow.”
Isaiah 1:18
I enjoyed the prickles and structure of the Holly with its red berries against the smooth red of the rose petals, so I went on a journey with it. With copper colour paint to cover all the white and then green and red. Here is how I saw a part of the vase.

Did you know the first fragment of a fresco with a rose on it was found in Crete. It was done (2000 – 1500 BC) during the Bronze age painted by an artist from the Minoan civilization. Then, the oldest living rose on Earth is 1,000 years old, growing against a cathedral in Hildersheim.
Like all my posts, I let them travel their own roads, and most times, I go for the ride. I took the word copper, the paint I enjoyed working with and here is what an English poet said.
Some minds improve with travel, others, rather resemble copper wire or brass, which get the narrower by going farther.
Thomas Hood 1799 – 1845 English poet, author, and humorist. You have been warned Sandy🤣
I then looked at some vases of roses painted by Van Gogh, and I was soon watching Video: Strictly Critical Finds Beauty Rules in Van Gogh’s Flowers at the Metropolitan Museum.
It is an unusual look at four paintings. I hope you aren’t too shocked to see flowers by Van Gogh a little differently.

Take care,
Sandy 🙂
The rose is my favourite flower. Thanks to sharing these lovely pictures and reflections. 🙏🏾💖
Ah, thank you Anneta.
Wow! Love your painting, love the berries and your leaves with the white, always love the way you do your background and it all hangs together nicely. What did you paint on? Paper? Canvas? Wood? I like information about roses and copper, made me smile. I am going to go look at your link about van Gogh now. I will be back.
Ahha interesting commentary, my matric art assignment for the year was on the Expressionists and particularly van Gogh and Gauguin and how industrialization affected them. Fascinating and sad all at once. I enjoyed watching the video, thank you.
My pleasure! Happy to share.
First, a big thank you for your kind comments. I am painting on paper for acrylic paint, and I can’t explain how much ‘fun’ I get from looking. Nature is becoming more lovely.
Interesting post Sandy! I love Van Gogh’s paintings. They are absolutely unique for sure. It always amazes me to listen to people discussing paintings and what ideas they come up with🤓😄
Yes, I wasn’t sure of some of their facts, but as you say it’s interesting.
