A walk on the river Test close to Mottisfont

Give God all your cares, for He cares for you.

1 Peter 5: 7

Come let us walk a while on the banks of the shallow , chalk bedded river Test. It’s icy cold, fingers and cheeks sting a little, but it is very still. No air to move a twig or leaf. Our movement and that of the Swan are all that stirs.

We follow behind the swan.

Someone is feeding the fish.

The eager swan becomes more expectant .

There is a small group of people forming. The fish are jumping!

A lady asks a man feeding the fish:

The rainbow and brown trout are troubling the water.
They are catching and eating fast.

“So where have you hidden your rod?”

A snort a laugh with a smile and a price of how expensive it costs to fish on the river Test where we are standing was the only answer.

We are in the grounds of Mottisfont, which was the second home of Lord Sandys, the owner of The Vyne. He was gifted it in 1536 and set about transforming the priory into a grand house. He hosted Edward VI for three days and Queen Elizabeth I in 1569 and 1574. In 1684, the eighth and last Baron Sandys died childless, and it was left to his nephew, Sir John Mill.

Mottisfont set well back from the river Test.

Let us go up towards the house…

Some thoughts about trouble:

Be very careful to retain peace of heart because Satan casts his lines in troubled waters.

Paul of the cross.

Nothing is permanent, not even our troubles.

Charlie Chaplin

The moment you accept what troubles you’ve been given, the door will open.

Rumi

It was good to be outside. Take care.

Sandy 🙂

  1. Looks icy cold, but what a beautiful swan. Isn’t it amazing that there are many creatures who can survive these temperatures without any issues at all. Amazing is God’s creations. ❤️😊
