Trulli in Italy

Paul in his letter to the Romans says : hate what is evil love what is good… live in harmony with one another… Never be wise in your own eyes.

Romans 12 : bits of verses 9 and 16

We are on our way back home but will stop at different places on the way. Trulli was a little out of the way but very interesting.

About 50 miles from Bari (the port in Italy that we arrived at from Greece) is Trulli.

Why might one build a house including its roof with stone?

Here is a reason they had in the 15 th Century. The king in Naples issued an edict that urban settlements had to pay tax.

The crafty people of Tuli designed a circular house with a pointed roof. This point had a capstone under it. Removal of it made the house a pile of stones . A canny way to avoid tax when the King’s man came along.

Press on the picture to see Trulli houses where stone-cutters, weavers , workers of copper and earthenware lived.

Many of the houses are used by holiday makers but a few are still lived in.

We have travelled a lot today.

The shelter of excuses has a leaky roof.

Compromise makes a good umbrella , but a poor roof.

  1. What an interesting town to visit Sandy! Houses are not build like those anymore. It’s just little boxes put together in a short time nowadays
