The Lord is our shepherd we will not want… and we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23 (I am sure you can fill in the missing verses.)

This is one of the seven gates into the city. Don’t be overwhelmed go up the steps it will be dark after the bright sunlight…

Once you are through this and realise Marc Antony was involved as well as a siege… you will be pleased to walk along the Travertine marble Etruscan city walls built between 6th and 3rd Centuries BC then modified by the Romans. Let’s look at these and from these at buildings and trees.

It is the parallel straight line of brick work in the centre of my photograph. Press on it to see it more clearly.

The Griffon and the Lion are both symbols of Perugia. The Griffon is connected with the history of the city- both the sacred and profane. The Lion refers to the Guelphs , the faction that sided with the Pope at the time of the feuds.

A morning scene.
Plenty of shade.
People still with jackets on .
Sunlight coming down over the imposing buildings.
Thank you for walking a while with us in Perugia.
Sandy 🙂
Fascinating what kind of structures people have build over the decades.
These business were imposing. Look at me I am powerful and able to defeat opposition. This was especially seen in the city walls.
What a lovely and historic walk through Perugia, Sandy!
Thank you. It was an interesting break on our homeward journey.
I enjoyed the walk and your photos. Great trip break!! Safe travels home.
Thank you we are covering the miles and countries to get home.
Amazing – such old buildings. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such old things. I wonder what it must be like to live in a city like that?! Enjoyed this post.
Glad you enjoyed it. I guess we can only wonder. So different from our homes we grew up in.
