Jesus knows us individually, and is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He knows the very house in which we live, the name of each occupant… the distress of everyone touches his heart. He came to draw all men to Himself. His Spirit moves on hearts to draw them. … He cares for each one as if there were no other on the face of the earth.

” I have loved thee with an everlasting love, therefore with loving kindness I have drawn thee.”

Orleans in support of the Ukraine 🇺🇦 This long avenue of flags leads to…
…the Cathedral looking out at the flags…
…in the Cathedral is a painting of Jesus sitting with a soldier leaning his elbows on Jesus’ legs…
… on a shop door is a Joan of Arc festival poster advertising a celebration which has been embraced by the people of Orleans for almost 600 years…
…and a house which belonged to Jacques Boucher, treasurer to the Duke of Orleans, and where Joan of Arc stayed in April and May of 1429. It was burnt down in the bombings of June 1940 and rebuilt between 1961 and 1965.

Joan of Arc (The Maid of Orleans), heard a voice telling her to
meet with Charles VII and help lift the siege by the English on Orleans.
The English then left Orleans in May 1429.
Then during a sortie in May 1430 Joan of Arc was captured and sold to the king of England. She was accused of heresy and tried by an ecclesiastical court. She was burned alive in the old market place in Rouen on 30 May 1431. The full story is fascinating and sad.
In the background is the Groslot Mansion but in the foreground is
this statue of Joan of Arc. The memory of her in Orleans is marked, in many of the street names, shops and stained glass windows. Today throughout the world she is a symbol of not only courage and freedom, but also of self- sacrifice and resistance to the invader.
Inside the building, behind this statue of her, are some beautiful objects I asked to photograph…

In this painting you see the death of Francois the 2nd. He died in the room where the painting is hanging. His wife sitting next to his bed, in the blue dress, is Mary-Stuart Queen of Scotland. It was the Scottish soldiers who were the first to help Joan of Arc in 1429.

Moreover more recently Orleans has been twinned with Dundee in Scotland since 1946: because of their help with the reconstruction of the city after the Second World War.
Some city streets we walked along in Orleans and a couple of shop windows I peered into.

Orleans showed today its beauty in architecture and its unashamed willingness to remember conflict for peace both now and in the past.
