Green with pink

Two plants. Two different containers and a little in common. The great willow herb and myrtle spurge. Both are considered noxious weeds in the US but the myrtle spurge in the UK has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit and is valued in dry, Mediterranean style rock gardens.

The willow herb has small four-petaled pink flowers with slightly notched tips while the myrtle spurge’s yellow- green bracts gradually suffuse with pink or red tones as seedpods form. Both were of interest to me. The willow herb because it grows amongst the red and black current shrubs and needed to be out and the spurge because I had bought these two plants and expected the flowers/bracts to be yellow. I clearly was travelling when that happened.

Looking at each plant in a jug. This is what I appreciated.

There is a natural pleasant way the plant holds the alternately arranged, narrow, lanced shaped leaves on upright branches. These stalk are held well in a jug with a narrow mouth.

The notched four petals of the flower are easy to see in a spray of opening buds at different stages.

Then for the change of the myrtal bracts in potter Ruth’s green jug. The wider mouth allows the plant material to take its own shape. Their bend of stem and awkward look become more fascinating through the looking.

Here the bracts show how finely the colour is displayed and the leaves keep their order while tinged with pink.

A fine change of green to pink.

And here is what I was reading today:

Paul preached Christ and many of the Corinthians hearing him believed and were baptised. Then God said this to Paul: ‘ Don’t be afraid, but speak and don’t be quiet: For I am with you, and no one will hurt you, for I have many people in the city of Corinth.’

And Paul continued to persuad people to worship God. The Greeks did not mind his words but the Jews were angry.

Acts 18: 9-17 ( a summary by me)

And two thoughts about change:

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Wayne Dyer

Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom wakens. The sleeper must awaken.

Frank Herbert

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
