…in a vase

Acer leaves to the left from a young tree Roy planted last year. Here it is in the garden.

Small and dwarfed but one day it will have its reflection in the water with the others.
Then the other stems are from the Photinia, Red Robin. It is in full bloom against the fence where it hasn’t been pruned. It is well established and clearly gets a lot of sun.

The leaves when new are almost metalic red changing to maroon then remain bright glossy green throughout the rest of the year. The flowers are five petaled creamy white and bloom from April to May.
These two plants fitted into the vase well.
There was a third plant stem I fitted in from the Barberidaceae shrub which is doing so well this year. Once when I used it it was covered in caterpillars and I wondered if it would survive but it has not just survived it has thrived.

Here it is on the right of the birdbath and in the vase…

… a fuller look.
The other red / maroon leaves as seen in the garden are:

The young leaves of Smoke bush and…

…as seen from our garden a large Crimson King Norway Maple, Acer platanoides.
These maroon /burgundy/ruby leaves bring depth to the yellow greens of spring. They are appreciated.
Here are some thoughts about colour:
Of all God’s gifts to the sighted person, colour is holiest, the most divine, the most solemn.
John Ruskin
In nature, light creates the colour, in the picture, colour creates the light.
Hans Hofmann
Then Henri Matisse says this:
‘ Colour helps to express light, not the physical phenomenon, but the only light that really exists, that is in the artists brain.’
Jesus then speaks about light as spiritual. Here is Him speaking :
‘ I am the light of the world: those who follow me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’
Have a good time of day whenever you read this.
Take care,
Sandy 🙂
I like this, Sandy. I have less interest in monochrome photos, but I enjoyed immensely colourful photos of nature like this. Happy Monday and a beautiful verse you shared.
Thank you, Hazel. Have a really good day.
Nature and all it’s colours are such a huge blessing we don’t always appreciate 🙏🏻
So true but you certainly put them together to bring joy.
A stunning arrangement, Sandy! You create such artwork beauty in creating them. I don’t know what it is, but when I’ve tried to make mixed arrangements, they just don’t look appealing. 🤔😉
Ah, don’t be too critical of yourself. Sometimes hold them in your hands and then let them fall into place naturally. Then space each stem so each flower has a view of the world. Space is as important as object. Work with odd numbers 3, 7, if it gets more of each type it doesn’t matter. Nature is beautiful. Thank you for liking. 🙂
