Winter stalks in a jug

Moses also wrote some of the Psalms. Here he prays about the brevity of life compared to God’s eternity. This is from Psalm 90:10,11,12

‘ The days of our years are threescore years and ten (3×10+10=70); and if by reason of strength they are fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of your anger?… So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom and satisfy us early with your mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.’

It didn’t rain yesterday afternoon and Roy and I cut back some of the winter stalks on some of the plants. I find the structures of these difficult to throw away so I put a few in a stamped Loratt Langley Mill jug.

This is what I discovered about the pottery. It was founded in 1865 by James Calvert and became Calvert and Lovatt, then in 1895 became Lovatt and Lovatt and in 1967 Langley Pottery Ltd. The pottery was in Derbyshire and initially they produced utilitarian stoneware this lead to decorative Art Nouveau and art pottery, frequently featuring incised designs and highgloss glaze usually in shades of green, brown and blue.

Here this jug contains a little of winter 2026.

Weatherd plants

to stubbled weathered fields

to a weathered face.

Life continues.

Here mostly in earth tones: beaver, beige, bister, buff burnt umber, chestnut, chocolate, and the tones can continue…

Roads through winter lands…

And a near ‘ winter’ face…

This is how Moses ends His prayer: ‘ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be on us: and establish the work of our hands on us.’

Amen.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

    1. Thank you! Winter’s foliage has lovely shapes. I didn’t notice the shine above my head. I thought the wrinkles around my mouth looked much like the landscape of rolling hills.🤣 Thank you it has become a more appreciated picture of me at 70 (nearly)!
