The first garden daffidol 2026 and…

‘ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness/ inconsistency. He isn’t chaotic and vacillating…’ James 1:17. ( The context is interesting.)

Aster flowers now brown. They were still blooming purple when we left 11 Nov 2025 and I wasn’t going to cut them to two inches from the soil level, so they have fed the birds and given some structure. It is said I should wait till March to cut them. I am sure I will do it earlier. Then by the door there is the elderly Hellebore plant.

The Hellebore that had black areas of dead growth last year is drenched but healthy this year and here is ‘ Helleborus [HGC Ice ‘n’ Rose red] blooming at Wisley.

Buds and blooms over the whole plant.

Daffidols and hellebores are very much in view at Wisely at the end of January.

Then back to our garden where I was eager to see if the seedlings I had put out before I left were happily placed. Having grown them from seed I had a good number. Scabious not to be confused with Geum.

Geum belonging to the rose family, and this one stays green through winter. Then my seedlings…

A Scabious seedling which can be planted in a mixed boarder, large patio container, gravel gardens and meadow type settings as long as they have sun or light shade. They belong to the honeysuckle family. I have planted them here and there and have found four doing well.

I was then amused to see the hen and chicken plant in my unheated work area had grown into some drying plant matter. A new ‘air plant.’

I cannot crop my photographs so you may also see a hammock shaped spiderweb in the right hand corner. Once I photographed an enormous web covered in frost on the washline. Spiders are undisturbed when we are away and they take space.

Here is the photograph that made me smile.

The hen and chicken ¹/ spider plant is in the centre growing out of a bunch of drying plant stems. The leaves are white, green, white. I also have plants with green, white, green, a small but fascinating difference. I will soon plant it elsewhere.

With the spider plant and web ‘taking space’. I looked at some thoughts about:

‘ You are allowed to take up space.’

Meaning?

Own your emotions and worth, reject the need to shrink…Your playing small does not serve the world.

And

When time and space and change converge we find place.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
