Views from a window and the grey cliffs near Luz.

We have stopped travelling for a while but are staying close to the coast. The nights are dark and almost silent, with the thick walls of the cottage around us, it is a change. This post will look at three different views from one high window in the cottage. First from a bedroom looking up at a small window one can see palm fronds bowing over a densely growing honeysuckle creeper in bright orange bloom, then from the kitchen on a higher level in the cottage the same window presents a view of the hill and then a third view but from a different angle one can see some farm sheds.Beneath each of these views is a verse to look at the question: ‘Why does Jesus sit on the right hand of God?’I will then continue to look at the Vicentina coast where there is a wilder landscape with ash grey and copper- coloured cliffs. The material is resistant limestone and chert layers amongst others which form waves of colour.First the window with its several views.A question first: ‘ Who will lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is the person that condemns? It is Christ that died, or rather is risen again who sits at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.’John is speaking from a life already long-lived. ‘My little children, I am writing to you to tell you not to sin. And if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.’ 1 John 2:1And what seems like a prophecy from Isaiah and another similar verse with a different context from Exodus:’ Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD has dashed in pieces the enemy.”Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power, your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.’The right hand or on the right hand seems to mean strength, authority and a place of honour that provides protection. Jesus sits there equal to God.Now the Vicentina Coast. The cliffs are well defined in colour and texture.A fine beach taking the contours of the cliffs.Smooth stone in the foreground with small pools to explore. In the far distance flint like rock resisting the seas erosion, the power of the ocean.A very different part of the Algarve.Take care,Sandy 🙂
