This post will be in two parts. First I will start with today, the Sabbath then yesterday Friday.
I couldn’t follow the sermon in Portuguese but I did get the first verse which I then used to travel with ‘ Why’.
First verse Jesus speaks: ‘Remember Lot’s wife.’
Luke 17: 32
Why?
Genesis 19: 16…
And, while Lot lingered, the men (angels) took Lot’s hand and the hand of his wife and those of his two daughters and because the LORD was merciful to them, brought them out of the city saying: ‘ Don’t look behind you but escape to the mountains.’ But Lot asks this question: ‘ Can we go to Zoar? ‘ The sun had risen when they entered the small city and then this happened.
God rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. It came from the Lord out of heaven and God overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew from the ground.
But Lot’s wife looked back from behind her husband and she became a pillar of salt.’ Sandy’s summary of this story. A story worth reading for yourself.
Where else does God speak about destructive fire? I wanted an Old Testament and a New Testament passage.
This is what I got:
Malachi prophesying well after 444 BC: ‘ Look the day is coming, that will burn as an oven, and all the proud, and all those who do wicked things will be stubble: and on that day they will burn so there are no branches or roots says the LORD of many.’
Then John speaks from the Island of Patmos where he is a prisoner for preaching Jesus: ‘ And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whoever was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.’
Revelations 29: 15
Hell isn’t eternal, but life with Christ is.
I am pleased about this as the paintings of hell I have seen are awful!
Now for beautiful Carvoeiro. I’ll do it in pictures:
Broken shells on the beach,
Receding lines of tidal seaweed curving on the sands
Breaking waves make caves and stones make eyes
Grey sky, turquoise sea, yellow cliffs.

I paint a scene to see some more.
A turquoise sea with a stroke filled movement of foam, a rainy day in Carvoreiro no grey sky in this painting.

What makes the orange streak lines on the cliff face and eats holes out from under them? Will the orange streaks become cracks of separation?
What makes the white foam on the sea?
The sea against itself makes white where currents meet or waves collide.
The cliffs make some of the breaking foam but the sea breaks the cliffs.
The tides pull and push and make the whole new every day.
Our beautiful Earth.
I travelled with religion and the beauty of the sea this evening.
Take care,
Sandy 🙂
Lovely.
Thank you, Shelly. Portugal is beautiful.
Looks so lovely and inviting.
Thank you, Morag. The beaches are warm and soft to walk on but the sea was rough!
💕
I love your painting Sandy and can see the sea is alive! Beautiful!
Thank you kindly. It was good to look and see it that way.
