Poppies from 2020

Jesus speaking: ‘ Blessed are the  poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’ Matthew 5:3

Realise your spiritual poverty. Feel your need to be saved.

Then this from God, the high and lofty One that lives in eternity, whose name is Holy; ‘ I live in the high and holy place, with people who have a willingness to say sorry,(contrite heart) and a humble spirit, and I make that humble heart and spirit alive again (revive) in those people.’

Isaiah 57:15

Seeds scattered in May from an envelope dated Poppy seeds 2020 came up now this July 2025. It was during the summer of COVID 19 that these poppies, not planted, came up. A neighbour commented that they were growing in her garden, too and she was pulling them out not knowing they had an attractive seed head. I dried the attractive pods and placed them in a jug from Steminitsa, Greece for one of my posts at that time.

This time in 2025 I enjoyed  taking photographs and painting.

While working with the real plant I had forgotten how quickly the petals drop. Here are the two photographs with quotes.

The real and the painted.

It was significant for me to see the petals of the real and painted after working so closely with them.

Following the word real here are two quotes from Plato andWalter Winchell :

‘ We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark, the real tragedy of life is when people are afraid of the  light.’

And

‘A real friend walks in when the rest of the world walks out.’

I then wanted to reposition the real but it fell apart in my hands. The paint was still wet so I worked carefully.

A time spent enjoying this new idea.

Here are a few thoughts:

‘ Maybe working on the little things as dutifully and honestly as we can is how we stay sane when the world is falling apart.’

Haruki Murakami ( A Japanese writer. One amongst many of his books is one that may interest runners. ‘ What I Talk About When I Talk About Running.’ In this 2007 memoir he discusses running and its effect on his creative life.)

And

‘ I have stepped outside my comfort zone enough to know that, yes, the world does fall apart, but not in the way that you fear.’

Tan Le ( A Vietnamese lady born in 1977 and co-founder of Emotiv. She was named Young Australian of the year in 1998.)

And

‘ Get through today- you can fall apart tomorrow. Get through tomorrow, you can fall apart the day after…’

Tabitha Suzuma (A British writer from London.)

I am enjoying this new way of working and will experiment for a while. It is not yet refined, but fun.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

The real and painted.
