Regensburg

Here is a different picture from the rest of this post.

The devil takes Jesus and they are placed on the pinnacle of the temple in Jerusalem and this is their conversation:

The Devil quotes Psalm 91: 11-12

Devil speaking:

” If you are the Son of God throw yourself down, for it is written; ‘ He/God will command His angels to hold you up in their arms, so you won’t break your feet on the ground.’

Jesus speaking:

” Again it is written ‘ You will not put the Lord your God to the test.’(Don’t test God or demand His proof especially when rooted in doubt or lack of faith.)

Satan then takes Jesus to a high mountain. Matthew 4 has these interesting events. I have made them my own. You may see it differently.

The city of Regensburg is on the Danube River in southeast Germany. Let us notice the Gothic Cathedral and the 12th-century stone bridge before other interests take us.

Let us look at the church first.

Regensburg Cathedral.
A twin-spired Gothic landmark. Started in 1275 and completed in 1634.
Except for the towers which were finished in
1869.

Here are Henry Ward Beecher’s thoughts: ‘ Many people build as cathedrals are built – the part nearest the ground finished, but that part which soars toward heaven, the turrets and spires, forever incomplete.’

Then the 16-arched bridge. An icon built in the 12th century ( 1135 – 1146). This bridge crosses the Danube to the old town. The biggest medieval site north of the Alps.

The iconic 16-arched bridge over the Danube.

Three photographs to give a taste of the old part of the city and then something that caught my eye.

A shop that teaches.
In a glass inset two pieces of amber for the public to look at.
Amber is fossilised tree resin that often contains an insect or plant fruit.

I have seen this before in our travels but it was good to see it here and this find of a quote made it more significant. It is by Kurt Vonnegut ( 1922- 2007):

‘ Here we are, trapped in the amber of the moment. There is no why.’

He also said: ‘ We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend.’

And another which does not apply to me:

‘ I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge, you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the centre. ‘

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

Ps

Bess would quite enjoy some of Roy’s cheesecake beside the Danube.
