Leaves on Lake  Como

God speaking through Isaiah:’ This is what I ask you: to take undone the chains of injustice, to set the oppressed free, to share your food  with those who are hungry, to shelter the wanderer,  when you see those with inadequate clothes give them clothes, and don’t turn away from your children. Do this and good things will happen for you…a list in verses 8-14′ (Sandy’s words mostly of Isaiah 58: 6-8)

A note from the author. I find homophones playful and often make real mistakes with them. Here I am using the two meanings of leaves. The verb to leave and the plural noun leaves I hope you follow.

'Leaves' on Lake Como
There are the permanent leaves:
A stunning upside- down Y- shaped lake nestled in the Italian Alps.
Mountains sloping down with paths of escape.
Roman and Renaissance history in Villas.
Towns 'as pretty as a picture.'
Then leaves and needles on trees that thickly cover mountain paths.

Let's look at what is left:
First the Dongo Museum of World War II.

A large hydrangea covers some of the information.
A way of saying let us remember but not for too long.
Andrea Mussolini and his mistress Clara Petacci tried unsuccessfully to escape once they knew the war was over and were captured near Dongo.

The paths through these mountains were used by: Jewish people escaping the Holocaust, allied soldiers escaping from prison, anti- fascists, smugglers and others.
The paths to Switzerland were well used but filled with hazards: falling, avalanches and border patrols.
The Villas:
Villa Balbianello of Hollywood fame,
Villa Carlotta; open for all to see, the gardens, art collection and history.
Villa Serbelloni and Villa d'Este, the summer residemce for European royalty but now a hotel.
And always more...

Mild Climate with towns: Domaso,Gravedona,Donga, Musso, Menaggio, Cardenabbia, Griante, Tremezzo where there is a botanical garden and Bellagio where the three make one of the upside down Y of cold, very deep, lake Como.

And then there are the leaves for shade! The ones that come each spring and go each autumn. The ones that fill our world with green and cover up the sun.
The leaves of a shady tree on Lake Como.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
