I thought beauty bush and old fashion weigela were the same shrub until last week. They were already well established plants32 years ago, where they grew and bloomed together.
Can you notice anything different? See the difference. Is there a noticeable difference?

Kolkwitzia amubilis / Beauty bush is less common, and the flowers are smaller with yellow throats. Both shrubs flower each year in late spring, and that was when I saw them but never looked at them to see they were different until I wrote a post about old fashioned Weigela.
Now for some painting and those bright yellow canola fields.
During our Sabbath walk on paths around Waltham Saint Lawrence, I took a photograph I wanted to paint from. Here is my painting and some thoughts.

Walking to a tree
The tree held by a scene
An only tree,an alone/a loan tree!
It stands in the distance where colour seas meet.
Yellow, bright yellow
Green,bright green
It stands between!
The path to it is mottled brown
It stands where the brown ends.
A majestic tree.
It stands alone.

The tree is a long way in the distance.
Let’s travel with old fashioned:
‘ It is only the modern that ever become old fashioned.’
Oscar Wilde
Now, some advice from Steven Pressfield and Richard Branson.
‘ Long-term, we must begin to build our internal strengths… the old fashioned basics of self-reliance, self-motivation, self – reinforcement, self – discipline, self- command.’
‘ If you want to be more productive, then start at the start: get there on time, whether it is a meeting, a flight, an appointment or a date, be there when you say you will be there. This may seem an old- fashioned tip to give , but it has served me well for fifty years.’
And
There is a verse, Proverbs 28: 20. Let us look at the positive part.
‘A faithful person will be richly blessed.’
Take care,
Sandy 🙂
I love your painting 😍
Thank you, Morag. I had fun.
I see no difference in the beauty bush and weigela. I’m so excited to find my weigela bush finally flowered after 2 years of not flowering. I discovered that it blooms on new wood and for years I did nothing until last fall when I pruned it really well.
They are wonderful in flower. Their branches are covered in pink with not much green. So glad it bloomed in your garden.
