Herbs from the garden

God speaking: ‘Look around you. I have given you and every animal of the earth that has life green herbs to eat. These herbs carry seeds, and the trees carry fruit with seeds. These are for you to eat.’ Genesis 1: 29,30 (Sandy’s wording read it in its context and word it for yourself).

From top left oregano, mint, thyme, wild garlic flower and leaf, a chive leaf and bud, new bay leaves, and lastly sage.

It is too cold to enjoy gardening this morning, but photographing with grey skies is pleasant. The herbs, particularly the chives grew quickly with the warmth so I picked a large bunch of chives, cut them up finely and they made a good addition to these ingredients: a tin of sweetcorn ( drained), a few beaten eggs, a couple or so tablespoons of self raising flour, a bit of salt and a handful of oats. I also added a small onion finely chop and grated cheese. I use whatever type I have that needs to be used up. I don’t like the consistency to be thick as the patties are then dry. Fry on both sides in a non-stick pan for less oil. Serve warm with a tomatoe sauce  green salad and new potatoes. It was a good meal on a hot day.

Here in rustic shape.

Sweetcorn patties with obvious flecks of green chives.

Sayings with corn. One scientifically states : ‘ All the food we eat – every grain of rice and kernel of corn – has been genetically modified. None of it was here before mankind learned to cultivate crops. The question isn’t whether our food has been modified, but how.’

Michael Spectre

The other poetic: ‘ A light wind swept over the corn, and all nature laughed in the sunshine.’

Anne Brontë’s quote is so apt for our experiences on summer Sabbath walks. Anne was the youngest member of this literary family, and I was sad to read that she died of turberculosis at the age of 28. Her sister Charlotte Brontë wrote a poem about this sad time. While Anne wrote an equally beautiful poem about parting.

And

Farewell by Anne Brontë.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
