The pale blue line with wiggles is the Basingstoke canal linking to London. Opened in 1794 to carry flour, timber, coal, etc. to the big city. What we need to admire is that after a long time, not in use, a group of local residents formed the now known Basingstoke Canal Society and restored the canal. Let us see their success.
The views along the canal can be long and uninterrupted as we look along the tree framed water edges. The path is wide enough for two to chat, and there is no noise of traffic.
The walk we are taking links paths that soon take us away from the canal to Dogmersfield Park. A property with a Grade I listed Georgian country house now used as a hotel and Dogmersfield Lake reflecting light into the large front of the house.
What we notice are the bulrushes on the edge of Dogmersfield Lake. Bulrush seeds disperse in winter. The seeds are sunken deep in fluff, and once this escapes, the seeds move in the wind or on the water currents. They are still but waiting. Look how close they are to leaving.
It is very still.
The sky changes as we walk these level pleasant paths.
It is daffidol time now.
A few hours walking in our wet under foot world. Warmer days are coming, and we enjoyed no rain today.

Some of the homes below the canal ( the canal in places was higher than the ground on one side) had canoes. Thank you for your comment. It is a beautiful area. Look forward to the same walk in late spring.

My brother, Don Getz, a well-known Ohio artist, lived in Peninsula, Ohio and was in the group who restored the Canal which came from Cleveland, Ohio to the Ohio River. It is now a beautiful area with canal boat rides, train rides (tracks run parallel to the canal), waterfalls to enjoy and trails for hiking.
