Leaves that hang on

Psalms 73

Asaph is talking about how envious he is of the wicked who do well…(he goes on and on) … they have more than they wish for… until he says: ‘I went into the sanctuary of God.’ …Asaph then comes to some sound conclusions with this ending: ‘ But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all His works.’

We went walking, and with all the dripping wet of green laurel and Holly shining in the rain, the shape of autumn leaves hanging in the wind caught my attention. How had they managed to stay there from October to February?

Hang on,hold on,
Hanging on, holding on,
Bister,brick,chestnut
Crisp brown!
Winter's rain and wind in grey light
They hold
Twisted, margins waved, the shapes fetching against the uniform green of all the holly, ivy, and laurel
Touched but not changed by frost, wind, or rain
The leaves that were touched and changed but haven't fallen, the holding on ones, the golden brown ones against the green.
Look and admire.

Let’s travel with the words hanging on:

‘Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.’

William Feather

‘ When you’re scared, when you’re hanging on, when life is hurting you, then you’re going to see what you’re really made of.’

Sylvester Stallone

And then a different thought.

‘It’s easy to get wrapped up in sharing everyday life with a partner. It’s fun to get lost in love and romance. It’s the best. BUT holding on to yourself while doing that is the most important thing.’

‘ All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.’

Havelock Ellis

Brittany Murphy

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
