Faro part 2

Jesus speaking: ” This is my commandment that you love one another, as I have loved you.”

John 15 : 12 ( I have a long way to go).

As travellers, we appreciate looking at a place a second time. Why? Simply because having seen other towns and places in the country, one feels more at ease to enjoy it in relationship to a wider perspective.

Here is a map to help you see the other places we have been in and then notice Faro.

A good place to park this second time was by the old city walls. We were one of a number of travellers legally parked. I would like to share some early morning photographs of this quiet place.

Sun rise in Farro.
Farro walls with early morning tree shadows and city trees against a pale sky.

Then a walk through town to Jardim da Alamada João.

Stately, tree lined entrance to a calm place.

Palms can grow to 61m . I was amazed to see one holding its head up at the height of a six storey building. This avenue of them looked impressive.

This is a January garden. The pools are empty with no fountains spurting water. The ladies working on the grounds are particular. Bess must be kept off the grass and on a lead. It is good to see such care.

Then there is Strelitzia. The giant ones have no flowers but I speak to one of the ladies and she is proud to say in Portuguese, which I understand by hand movements and expressions, that they are really old and yes, giants.

The Giant Strelitzia can grow to 7m /23′  and the clumps formed to 3.5m / 11′ wide.  Here is something odd about them.

‘ Strelitzia nicolai is among the few plants which have been verified to contain the pigment bilirubin, which is usually found in animals.’

Definition of bilirubin:

Bilirubin is a red-orange compound that occurs in the normal catabolic pathway. This  catabolism  is a necessary process in the bodies clearance of waste products that arise from the destruction of red blood cells.

To go back to the early morning sunshine. It is this that is loved and much appreciated by all this time of year.

A new dawn in Faro.

May your time of day be pleasant.

Sandy 🙂
