A walk on Christmas day 2024

This is Paul speaking: ‘ Jesus who commanded the light to shine out of darkness has shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus.’

2 Corinthians 4:6

The storks and a mural.

I have already met the storks of Silves in a field behind a supermarket. Today, I may have seen some of their nests.

There are orange groves along the River Arad and white sea gulls swoop, dive, and squable in the sky while a father throws bread crumbs in the air. His little son also wants a part of this powerful action. The sky has a few clouds, which is nicer for taking photographs. I watch and wait, enjoying the play between father and son and birds.

We walk on.

There is a modern bridge that we start to cross, and it is from here that I see the Stork nests. I think it is my best and only opportunity, but it isn’t. There is a Roman bridge further on that takes us on to a path along the river and we walk away for a while and then around a bend and back, we are next to the trees with there stacked-stick nests.  We watch the stretching and flapping and hear the clapping of their beaks as they communicate with each other, the stalks balancing on their nests in the late afternoon sun.

It was difficult to leave, but we do.

There is one more surprise a mural on the wall of a fire station. This mural reminded me of another photograph I took of a painting by Crivelli in Italy of Mary holding Jesus. Jesus takes himself off Mary’s breast to look straight  at the painter. I hope you see something in this mural, too. The mother/ fire fighter  shares herself with a rescued baby.

( A mother often fights children’s fires protecting their growing years… a thought.)

‘A baby is someone you carry inside you for nine months,
in your arms for three years
and
in your heart till the day you die.’

Merry Christmas, and thank you once again for spending precious time looking at my posts.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
