Portimao

Religion

Paul is writing to Titus about Jesus, the baby born in Bethlehem , our Saviour: ” Not by righteous things that we have done, but because of His mercy He saved us, the Holy Spirit being the one that washes us, regenerates us,and renews us. This Holy Spirit was given to us in abundance by Jesus, our Saviour.”

Titus 3:5,6 (Read it and make it your own. I have.)

God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit all one in purpose for us to be with Them. May we be hopeful in Them.

A little time in Portimao

Two impressively large wall art installations summarise our visit to Portimao, a port city in the Algarve region of Southern Portugal. The first is a reminder of relaxation and time out in a tourist orrintated city.

Notice the Seagull’s webbed feet balanced on her hands with its beak open wide.
(I was in Saint Ives when a seagull neatly took a cornish pasty out from between my teeth and my hand.  The seagull is sharp eyed!)

I took two photographs of this mural.  The first one showed three real seagulls looking down at the girl, but this photo shows the position of the wall art in relation to the street. Impressive work on the part of the artist.

Let’s travel by boat from this city  and look at some of the beaches and see the cliffs from the sea.

There are no private beaches in Portugal even if they are below five-star hotels. We will also notice how sink holes have formed caves or, rather, caves have formed sink holes.

We then walked through Portimao’s old quarter, which was involved in trade and fishing, so here is the second wall mural.

Notice the careful repair taking place on the net.

The warmth of the sun, friendly people and relaxed atmosphere have helped bring the tourist industry and now with Christmas a day away there is a festive excitement amongst  the families enjoying a ride on the street train, playing in santa’s village, and a fountain with a christmas tree to walk through.

A stork’s nest on a crane.

While walking back, I noticed  a crane providing a place for a stork to make its nest! This was the start and end, for us, of a pleasant broad promenade with a separate bicycle track all along the sea .

It is so unusual to have a sunny Christmas again,  very much like when I was a child camping with my parents and my sister.

I hope you are all safe and well this Christmas.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

Ps

Some seagull jokes:

Why are seagulls so loud?

Because they haven’t learned their ‘ indoor’ voices yet.

And

How do you communicate with a seagull?

Using gull-gk translate!

And

My friend said they wanted to live life like a seagull. Free and easy. Personally, I couldn’t deal with all the winging and squawking.
