Sabbath in the Logoa area

Lagoa is one of the most important  areas for tourism in the Algarve.

This will cover a little of Church worship, storks, and cliffs.

Sabbath celebrated in a church where you don’t speak the language is a bit like being a stork which has no voice box.  One follows the order of things.  The people were friendly, and we did have the main portion of the service translated. The lady Preacher was clear in her desire for us to realise the importance of Jesus’ birth, but reminded us that His empty grave is His best gift. He will come again.  Let us be able to welcome Him.

This area is known for its storks. I realised how special they were when I walked out of a supermarket on Friday and  heard a clapping sound above my head with a pop of air.  I looked up to see  a streamlined body of a large bird above me. It was wonderful!  I then put the groceries into Bugzy and took Bess out  into a field but stopped short. In front of me were eight large birds they were much closer looking towards me.  I took Bess back to Bugzy, and this is how I saw them the second time. Turned with their black tail feathers towards me. How I wish I had captured them looking at me as they did the first time. I must remember how lovely it was.

The birds and their large nests are protected in places with height. Some storks are unusual in that they nest out to sea on stacks. We spotted this nest shortly after leaving our church group on Saturday.

Storks return to their same nest and keep their same partner. However, with it being warmer, they don’t go away like they used to.

I am sure I will be stork spotting a lot.  I already saw a pair nesting on a church ledge in Faro.

Now for the cliffs

On a sign post were these words: “These cliffs are highly vulnerable to fresh water contact, being easily carved by it creating the karstic landscape.”

Let us look carefully at the ground. Notice an area where a small flower like a daisy is growing. The rock is changing and becoming more sunken. Sink holes form caves open to the sea, and then when land is separated from land, a stack is evident. It is awesome to realise such natural sculpture taking time, slowly but surely carving the coast line.
