Pinuspinea and Oxalis pes – caprae Algarve

Religion

‘ Every human being, in body, soul, and spirit, is the property of God. Christ died to redeem all. NOTHING can be more offensive to God than for people, through religious bigotry, to bring suffering upon those who are purchased by the Saviours blood.’

‘ The science of salvation cannot be explained; but it can be known by experience. Only the person who knows their own sinfulness can understand the preciousness of the Saviour.’

E G White. (The Desire of Ages pg 488, pg 495)

A tree and a plant.

Those stone pines/ umbrella pines/ Mediterranean pines and carpets of Beemuda – buttercup/ Oxalis, which look like Trifolium/Clover fill one’s mind with green.

After seeing olive trees along the river, Arade, which drew one’s eye to see the town of Silves, we now look at a sandy wooded area.

The stone pines seem youthful. Why?

The stone pine in youth is a bushy globe.

Middle-aged an umbrella canopy and a thick trunk.

In maturity, a broad flat crown!

What about that trunk? It is deeply fissured into broad vertical plates and a red brown colour. They were placed alongside Roman roads in classical times.

The bark of the stone pine and the bright green of what looks like clover but is a plant from a totally different family.
Its growth is thick and lush.

The Oxalis and not the Triffolium which Clover belongs to. Look at them in this bottle.

These trees have been cultivated for their edible pine nuts and appreciated by gardeners for their good looks. It belongs all over the world, where there is sand and a Mediterranean climate. It is a pleasure to smell and see. Pinus pinea.

A play with the word pine:

‘ We look before and after, And pine for what is not; Our sincerest laughter With some pain is fraught; Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought.’

Mercy Bysshe Shelley

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
