Carpobrotus

Isaiah speaking at the height of the Assyrian supremacy about 700 years before Jesus was born. He prophesied: ” For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah  9:6

When He came, would  I have noticed Him? Sandy’s thought.

Noticing a plant often seen in many countries with about 1500 species. They thrive in mild Mediterranean climates in sandy coastal areas, growing more than a meter a year.

Carpobrotus is a name that comes from Greek ‘karpos’, which means fruit and ‘brotos’ edible. The fruit is easy to eat. Bite the base off and suck the sweet, sour, slimy  pulp. It is eaten and seeds spread by  baboons, rodents, porcupines, and antelopes. I wonder what spread these plants on the cliffs.

The plant has wiry, long roots with shorter side roots that form dense underground networks. Their succulent green leaves slightly yellow and tinged with red stand out on the face of the cliffs. A strong contrast in all light.

Another bright day in the Algarve.

I enjoyed painting this plant and its dark green sprawling shapes as I saw it on the red cliffs of the Algarve.
The cliffs and a few sprawled plants as I saw them in the Algarve.
Sometimes, fellow bloggers come to mind when we see things, and when I see this plant, I know I have seen some lovely varieties from a fellow bloggers garden.
Thank you for helping me to notice!

Here is a thought with notice:

‘Life is full of beauty.  Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential. ‘

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
