From the sea to Ciñera.

Jesus speaking: ‘For God so loved this world,Earth, that he gave His only Son , that whoever believes in Him shouldn’t perish, but have everlasting life.’ John 3: 16 ( Sandy’s understanding.)

Morning light with tide out, we travel to Ciñera from Gijón. We take a pass to about a thousand three hundred meters above sea level. Bugzy is slower, so we pull over at each bay to give cars the opportunity to pass.

Ciñera is a walker’s and photographer’s delight. The harsh grey of the rock makes for brighter  yellow, reds and oranges of a Spanish autumn mix, with wood smoke from a couple of fires.

It is lunch, and people with walking poles are coming into the  square, all the surfaces tarred. Tables and chairs are soon out with drinks ordered, including hot thick chocolate. Here is how it is said to be made: First, mix 1/2 cup cocoa powder with 1 cup sugar in a pan. Dissolve 2 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch in 1/2 cup water and add it to the pan, stirring together to make a paste. Heat the mixture and while using a whisk pour in four cups of milk. Continue to heat and stir until the coco becomes thick and glossy.

Today, it isn’t churros, but pinchos. The pinchos are smaller sized portions of a particular dish served on bread with a cocktail stick spiked through. Soon, a van draws up and local people buy bread and small cakes. They wait in a group exchanging pleasantries. The church clock  says a quarter to two, and we are back on the road.

The mountain village of Ciñera.
The sky blue and the air cool.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

  1. Beautiful mountainous area. Looked up Cinero, but surprisingly there’s not much online… Maybe you should write an article for Wikipedia.
    Great quotes. Enjoy!
