Sedum

Religion

The covenant in the heart. Deuteronomy 30 : 13,14

God speaking: ” It is not over the sea, so you need someone to fetch it for you. Allowing you to   hear it and then do it. “

So God, what is this it?

God speaking: ” But the word is very close to you. It is in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it.”

God continuing: ” See, I have set before you a plate of life and good, and a plate of death and evil.

I command you  today to love the Lord thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep his commandments and His statutes and his judgements.”

And we don’t unless we ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus speaking: ” If you know how to give good gifts to your children how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to them that ask.

Paul speaking: ” God has not called us to uncleaness but holiness… and has given us the Holy Spirit.”

1 Thessalonians 4 : 7-8

The garden

Sedum

I gave the other plants around it extra soil, a richer soil than the poor soil  the Sedum preferred. Poor growing conditions, thriving in sandy gritty soils, is what it had originally. Then it rained all of spring, and although not rotten, it is leaning on the other plants.

Indecision

Shilly-shallying, hesitating.

This is my question:

Do I cut all the flowers off and encourage the plant to grow in the warmth of September and October.

Or

Do  we leave them for the few insects and enjoy the colour.

Leaning on the chives.

Here are two thoughts, one from Sylvia, the other William:

‘ Indecision and reveries are the anaesthetics of constructive action.’

Sylvia Plath

‘ There is no more miserable human being than one in whom nothing is habitual but indecision.’

William James

The mint and sedum leaning on each other.

Prudence is not hesitation, procrastination, or moderation. It is not driving in the middle of the road. It is not the way of ambivalence, indecision, or safety.’

John Ortberg

‘ Indecision may come from an instinctive hunch that there is more you need to know – which means it’s time to learn everything you can about the pros and cons of each option. You can continue on this track, however, only as long as you’re unearthing genuinely new information.’

Martha Beck

The sedum, the mint, and the chives.

Decision

I have to work with the mint and send it back to its original position. The chives are an old, well established group of plants, and I will cut those sedum branches leaning heavily on it. The plants around the other branches will need more light. I am not going to cut the sedum back completely it is not at all rotten. The flowers as they open can be for the few insects, even though I didn’t see any this morning. The sedum colours will brighten the garden, and so many of the branches will stay, but for how many months, I am not sure.

‘ True happiness is to enjoy the present , without anxious dependence on the future.’

Unknown to me.

‘Action cures fear. Indecision postponement , on the other hand, fertilizes fear.’

David Joseph Schwartz

I must go back to work in the garden with Roy it is wonderfully sunny today.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

  1. Enjoy your autumn garden. Lovely time of year.
“ True happiness is to enjoy the present , without anxious dependence on the future” – wise words.

  2. Is it coincidence or meant to be that you would speak today of ‘indecision’. I’ve had a manuscript for a book I’m hoping to publish at the publishers since the first of April and they keep making many mistakes in trying to format it. I’ve tried to break off with them 3 times now and they talk me into ‘trying again’. (They have my money, of course.) My ‘indecision’ is over whether to take it out of their hands and self-publish through Amazon. I’m 89 and want so much to get my book into print. Please hold me up in your prayers that I make the right desicion. Have a blessed day,Sandy.
