Marjoram, buddleia, and three stalks of seeding Lamb’s-ear.

“God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, who is the appointed heir of all things, by whom He also made the worlds. ” Hebrews 1: 1,2.

Today, I am cutting the Marjoram . Roy has a much more challenging task. The ivy has changed from small delicate white and green leaves to plane green, then badly formed palm- shaped leaves on a stem like a trunk. The fence is held by the ivy in a leaning grasp so as to take  up the neighbour’s garden. A challenge to remove.

Our different tasks today: the Marjoram and ivy.

Marjoram, with its small green leaves.
Buddleia’s  spear shaped clusters  progress from tip to base.
A progression from cream to tan with time.
The Lamb’s-ear soft and grey with a little rattle sound of loose seeds.

These are all in Ruth’s green jug, which I have often used in the past (the potter’s name is underneath, hence Ruth’s jug).

I wanted to know the difference between marjoram and oregano. This is what I noted.

Marjoram is a milder and sweeter alternative to oregano. Origanum vulgate hirtum is considered the true Greek oregano.

Marjoram is a blend of sweet , bitter, and slightly piny notes. As an herb it has an intense aroma and a delicate taste, which adds depth to dishes without overpowering them.

I guess I looked too long and wanted to draw and paint, and so I did :

Here are some thoughts about aroma:

” Nothing awakens reminiscence like an aroma.”

Victor Hugo

” Your attitude is like the aroma of your heart… ”

Alex Kendrik

” A home is a place where a pot of fresh soup simmers gently on the hob, filling the kitchen with soft aromas and filling your heart, and later your tummy, with joy.”

Keith Floyd. 1943- 2009 press on A farewell to Floyd Keith Floyd Tribute. It made me smile as it celebrates a person as it was said by one: ” He drank too much. Gave away a lot. Had a difficult personal life .” But brought happiness and changed how the British thought about food.

We are enjoying the sunshine. Have a happy Sunday.

Sandy 🙂
