Helsingborg is Sweden’s closest point to the Danish city of Helsingør which is 4km / 2.5 miles on the other side of the Oresund. It has not always been peaceful between the two countries. Following the Dano- Swedish War (1657 -1658 ), Denmark had to give up all territory on the Southern Scandinavian peninsula. Helsingborg became part of Sweden.
Here are two aspects of this town, the buildings and the planting in their park gardens and around the city.
Let us look at some city scapes. One from the terrace steps leading to the city’s 14 th Century Tower and the other from the sea looking back at the city.
The architecture is mixed with the oldest being the tower and the most modern those on the seafront very near our first park up.
Planting in the garden and in planters around the city.
White dahlias holding the centres of some beds with their large white heads giving height and bold structure.
The tall verbena floated above with purple petunias and hosta with their white and green leaves giving an interesting ground cover.
A silver leafed plant added contrast to make different greens fuller and bring out the purples.
The planting was finely managed . Plants were at their best, and it was a joy to look at.
Here, the purple was playing against yellow, lemon and orange.
Zinias, marigolds,petunias,salvia, and different grasses, to name a few. All tousled by the wind in an enormous circle.
I was so pleased to see it.
We had two park ups in Helsingborg both on the sea front and one with the ferry behind us, leaving every 15 minutes for Denmark. When travelling, sites that have facilities fill up quickly, then often there are non paying sites which are fine if you have done all the necessaries: water, waste empty etc.
We arrived late, so here is our first park up. Our only complaint was the roar of engines as cars were put through their paces, the ferries were silent. By midnight, it was quiet. We also experienced our first sunset for 6 weeks. It occurred well after 22 hrs.
Often in Sweden, the motorhomes and yatchs share the same facilities with saunas available.
The green plastic mug has lupin pods with other roadside flowers.
It is goodbye to Sweden, and in my appreciation of your wild swimming areas, I painted the last one we saw on Lake Vattern on that very windy night and day.

Thank you for sharing your journeys – and your paintings. I am 89 and hardly ever leave my house except to take care of a few flowers in my flower garden. I love to paint them and share them on my blog ‘A Little Art, Music and Poetry’. I live in Ohio, USA, but did go to Germany in the early 1960’s when my husband was deployed to Germany. I taught in the Army school while there, and we traveled mostly on weekends to several countries (England, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, France) We took the GI tours and I have wonderful memories from our trips. Yes we landed up living with our bed in the lounge as well as Derek’s office. Quite a chaotic time. But we’re now in our bedroom and at last I have a studio (from the last week). I have started writing and drawing again. Wish it had been sooner but we’ve survived. I look forward to more encounters with our blogging 💐🤗
