Part 3 Fredrikstad

Be patient with each other if you have a complaint against someone forgive them, as the Lord has forgiven you.

Colossians 3:13

This is my third post from Fredrikstad . With three months ahead of us, we decided to stay close to the Gomma Riverside with its free ferries and a city celebrating the date they became an independent nation.

There have been parades with bands and schools proudly divided into classes. Their teachers with their pupils walk  proudly together. It is a happy together time with hot dogs, popcorn, and restaurants serving meals.

Being interested in flowers, I  took these pictures of the detailed work on the bunad, the Norwegian national dress.

Vestfold, Rogaland, Hitterdal, Setesdal, Austagder, Romerike, Hardangee, Finse, Finnmark (where East meets West in culture), Sogn  (Western Norway surrounding the Sognefjord the largest/ longest fjord ) Valdres ( midway between Oslo and Bergen).

These can be seen in a child’s  paper doll cut out with dresses.

These should be celebrated in their design and what they represent.
The Norwegian women.
Not forgetting that the bunad includes the beautiful national dress of both men and women.

It is with pride that this city is celebrating on its streets its independence day as well as in its art gallery, a young artist, Alexander Jeger. I was told by the curator that he grew up and attended school here.

Let us go into this white wooden building.

…a building with a well cared for garden and fountain.

The exhibition is in a  well  proportioned room. He has put together an installation of rubber with wood. In this way, he explores existential questions that focus on man’s inner conflicts and vulnerability.

I want you to see two more buildings with their own works of art outside.

The main church.

I asked several people about the importance of the woman. Who had she been? Why was she here? They spoke good English, and three different people didn’t know what or why it was there. I know a little from Google, but not enough to stop me from asking questions.

This idea of heads continues on the  Gomma River Bank.

I leave  the day in the warmth of sunshine with street scenes.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

  1. Loved the embroidered national dresses and the paper dolls. Haven’t seen those for years!
