From Gothenburg Sweden to Fredrikstad Norway.

Quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

James 1: 19 (A good way to travel in a small space! HA! HA!)
The first of the suspension bridges as we travelled over wide inlets of sea…
…the fields flat and grey-brown ready for planting gave way to more hills as we drew closer to Norway.

As this is roadswetravel and I have an interest in flowers, I was intrigued that in Amsterdam in 1935 the international botanical conference chose Pyramidal saxifrage as Norway’s national flower, however Heather is considered the country’s national symbol.

Today, we saw fields of dandelions a warm welcome to a country of long days.

It is very warm and expected to be that way for the next two weeks. The well chosen  nickname for Norway is the Land of the Midnight Sun.

Dandelions in a bric-a-brac pot.
A potters humour,
all signed and made in Scandinavia, sold in Gothenberg.

These dandelions were picked on the distinct star shaped Fredrickstad’s  moat. They have just cut the grass. The area is quiet.

Let’s see a little of the Norwegian houses with their inhabitants relaxing quietly in their gardens or ?… It is very quiet.

The roofs are mostly slate, the walls strong colours: red, blue or yellow while white is the most popular.

Press on the picture to see the houses.
The blue of the moat is faintly visible.
“In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.” Aristotle

The traveller sees what he sees,

the tourist sees what he has come to see.

Gilbert K Chesterton.

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today was a day of travel. We will explore more of this intriguing place in a further post.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
