Paul is in prison in Rome, and he writes this to Timothy: ” You have known the scriptures from a child and that these scriptures are able to make you wise about salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All blue. Blue bells ,alkenet, and grape hyacinths.
The bluebell stalk from our garden is special as the bulbs were planted by my late Mum 20 odd years ago. The flower is strong and tall.
Another small blue flower in the garden belongs to the Green Alkenet. The black alkenet root is long with a blue – red colour on the inside and a whitish core as I weed it out it often breaks. This root has a long history of being used to colour different things from wood to lipstick. It is red in acid and blue in alkaline environments.
The grape hyacinths are now turning to seed, and yes, there is one in the group.
Let us look at the blue bell woods this year, 2024. This area is being enjoyed by a lot more people as more and more houses have been built.
The canopy will soon close with the opening leaves, and these blue bells will be the last of the spring flowers.
It is worth knowing that blue bell bulbs take five years to develop from seeds, and once trampled, they can’t produce enough energy to flower and reproduce in subsequent years.
