A Sabbath walk near Eton

Jesus speaking: ‘No one lights a candle and puts it under a bed! Rather, they put it on a candle stick so that those who come will see the light…

careful how you listen because those who have will be given more and those who have not even what they have will be taken!’

Luke 8:16, 18 Sandy’s summary.

We walked a while along a river, and then in a second, the real walk started. Jolted into reality by what we  read:

Michael's Bridge
Named in memory of
Michael Scaife
Who lost his life in
The Jubilee River
On
August 7th, 2015,aged 20
And to warn others of the hidden
dangers of the undercurrents
This river possesses!

Our eyes focus far away as far as the line of trees would take them. My mind is still on that bridge. A life so young. An uninformed youthful person. A cruel river. A painful happening.

Leaves bursting from thin swollen branches carry a gentle breeze high above our heads. It is all green in this world across the bridge.

Soon away from the two living lines, we meet another striding red brick line of arches. There is spring warmth in the air, and a train carries passengers high above the busy allotment workers who tend to flowers and spring vegetables in all the greens of spring.

Further ahead, Windsor Castle appears to rest in a waving grain field. Its walls grey and solid with blue above and green beneath.

Walking through several fields, there are Star- of -Bethlehem in clumps and white blossom, contrasting with the yellow fields of buttercups. These are friendly sprays and bunches , a respectful  reminder and recognition of what started my thoughts spilling on this spring afternoon.

The five miles will soon be over. Time spent together in delightful conversation. Lots of us today.

It’s a time to remember.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
