Turkiye 4

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.

Luke 19 : 10

The mountains near the tourist town of Alanya have yellows, reds, browns, greens and blurring shades of all these colours in the heat of 32C. The very highest of these Taurus Mountains have snow on them almost all year round, hence the freezing cold water of the Dimcay River and a mist in the morning with rainbows.

With these colourful mountains to the north of the town and the changing blues of the Mediterranean, it is easy to be enamoured by the setting of Alanya. With all its beauty it isn’t surprising that the story goes that Cleopatra, the Egyptian Queen, is said to have swum at one of these fine yellow sandy beaches and that the area may have been included in her dowry to Mark Antony.

We will take a cable car up to Alanya’s Medival castle/Fort built on a rocky bluff above the beach. From here, we will see Cleopatra’s beach and experience the greens of the pines and a view of the harbour from the other side.

Cleopatra’s beach from the cable car.
The green cool of the surrounding fir trees with the harbour and city spread out below the Taurus Moutains to the north.
This small photograph holds so many lives.
I do feel stunned and sad as I write this, but why?
Well, our guide told us that the ship we could see had brought 1,000 Jewish people on a cruise to visit this town that day.
We were visiting on Friday.
We didn’t know what would be happening on Sabbath.
Our thoughts and prayers are for all those in pain on both sides of this horrible war at this time.

Once out of the harbour on a boat, the high colourful cliffs are held between the blue of the sea and even deeper blue of the sky. There are many caves in this area where these same colours can be enjoyed. We went into a small one from a town entrance amongst the shops.

How intriguing the shapes of stalagmites and stalagtites.

I tried to play with their shapes and colours on a small canvas. It was a fun challenge and made me appreciate the years it took drop by drop to make this space filled with shapes.

The real becomes more lovely as you look at it more carefully.
It is not the product that is important it is the experience of looking.
Says Sandy.

Thank you for letting me share this with you.

Take care and let us cherish time with those we love.
