I brought it out from under the sink and gave it a wash and Dad said :
‘I can’t remember a time when that wasn’t in our home.’
The mountain at 6:38am , 9:42 am and 13: 56 pm . It is a new day and a warm afternoon.
The sun has gone behind this mountain now . The day is done.
These ‘Hoedspruit’ mountains are part of the Drakensberg mountains (Dragons mountains) /uKhahlamba (Zulu word meaning barrier of spears.)
These are his words: ” I remember when I was two years old I was sitting on my potty in our back garden in Wankie. I was looking at a hole in a bank of earth when a very long black snake went past me and slowly went into the hole. I was too young to know it was anything to worry about so I just watched it go right in.” A memory from 92 years ago.
Our family are learning to close doors leading outside if we leave a room. Reason snakes. Close windows in the kitchen when we leave the room there is a monkey interested in the bowl of fruit, cover it with a cloth they will otherwise bang on the window . Don’t put any rubbish out! There will be an awful mess. It is important to be aware that animals share these spaces with us and they have rights too.
