Honeysuckle,thistle and bramble

This is God talking to Adam: Eve gave you the forbidden fruit and you didn’t say ‘no’. You ate it. This is what will happen … there will be thorns and thistles… your face will sweat as you grow your food until you turn into ground because ground you are and ground you will return to.

Genesis 3: 17,18,19. (Sandy’s understanding the verses before and after are really strong too.)

Walking along the road home from an unexpected teaching day there were honey suckle flowers in the hedgerow growing with the brambles. I took three stems but knew I had plenty of brambles in my own garden. Placed in a glass jug the honeysuckle stems spread out but came closer together as I added the three thistle stems in the centre. A far tighter arrangement.

And the heart that is soonest awake to the flowers is always the first to be touched by the thorns.

Thomas Moore 1779-1852 He was an Irish writer, poet and lyricist.

Be thankful for the thorns and thistles, which keep you from being in love with the world, and becoming an idolater.

Charles Spurgeon. 1834 – 1892 (He was a Baptist preacher and writer. I particularly valued his commentary on the Psalms. )
The arrangement without the three thistle stalks.

Every man (woman) has his/her thorns, not of him, but in him, deep as bones.

Mark Lawrence ( born in 1966 in the USA and brought to England as a young child. He is the primary carer of his disabled child, Celyn and does not travel to promote his books or for conferences. He is a novelist and research scientist in the field of artificial intelligence.)

We still have our grey skies but it is warm. Take care.

Sandy 🙂

  1. Amazing link to scripture. Don’t think I’ve ever paid as much attention to a scripture like that and considered the meaning. You pay great attention to detail Sandy. ❤️💖😊🥰
