Sabbath in Sithonia

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10 :17

This Sithonia finger/leg is blueyellowgreen. All invitingingly soft. Softly glittering blue sea, soft yellow sands, and fir trees in new green soft needles growing right to the shore.

The sky,sea,trees and shore line…

Here are three quotes I found by looking at Sabbath. One is from the author of the Standard Manual for the Baptist Churches the other is from an Anglican author. Then the last one is from a teacher who belongs to The Village church. I thought the first one was interesting after viewing so many pagan ruins.

What a pity that Sunday comes branded with the mark of paganism, and christened with the name of the sun god, then adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism.

Dr Edward Hiscox before a New York Minister’s conference Nov 13, 1893.

Sabbath isn’t about resting perfectly, it’s about resting in the One who is perfect.

Shelly Miller Author

We are created for rest just as surely as we are created for labor. An inability or unwillingness to cease from our labours is a confession of unbelief, an admission that we view ourselves as creator and sustainer of our own universe.

Jen Wilken Author

I was looking at Greek painters and their work and liked this one Panayiotis Tetsis 1925-2016. He is a master of depicting colour and light and would only paint what he was intimately familiar with: his friends, landscapes etc. Press on his name if you want to see his work.

I hope you are having a restful weekend.

  1. What a lovely way to rest on the Sabbath, Sandy. I can think of no other way to enjoy a peaceful Sabbath than to spend time in the beauty of nature. I also liked the video of Panayiotis Tetsis, though I wasn’t fond of the slaughtered animal painting.

    1. When we first visited Greece we were staying in Steminitsa and that is how the meat hung in the butchers. I also saw it like that on my Aunts farm as a child. It is a stark reality of what happens when we eat meat.

  2. Lovely Sabbath quotes. What we would do without our day of rest, I just don’t know.
