Wild Garlic and New Nettles

I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

Job 29 : 16
The Mission Study Bible.
Six smooth, spear shaped leaves of wild garlic surrounding the hairy stinging nettle, young and full of prickle.  I know I have worked with them this morning.

The world is a nettle ; disturb it, it stings.  Grasp it firmly, it stings not.

Robert Bulwer – Lytton

Out of this nettle- danger- we pluck this flower safely.

William Shakespeare
Destined, finely chopped, for a bean and vegetable soup.  I will simmer these in it . Brown with green.

As well as any bloom upon a flower I like the dust on the nettles, never lost except to prove the sweetness of a shower.

Edward Thomas

What garlic is to salad, insanity is to art.

Augustus Saint- Gaudens

There are five elements: earth, air, fire, water and garlic.

Louis Diat
New nettles as stingy as can be and smooth wild garlic leaves growing together in the garden.

Better be a nettle in the side of your friend than his echo.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. I want some of that soup! It’s getting cold here. Nettle in the soup? Love the quotes and the leaf arrangement. I wonder if your nettles are the same as our nettle tree – its leaves sting like wasps.
