It was used for oil on our childhood table.
It is pressed glass.
Today it holds a few stems from the garden.
It was difficult for the usually resiliant cosmos to grow. I grew it from seed and placed it in a container difficult to reach with a watering can. We have three small plants stunted by difficulties when there could have been a host of tall ones.
The Japanese Anemone I planted in the wrong place then moved it back into a pot between travels so it has been stunted.
The Aster needs a sunnier space but is covered in blooms trying to reach the light.
Together instead of oil my gift to memory of home is struggle in these three gifts from the garden.
Then the Minden plate holds a pear.
It is from the tree I took into autumn by picking off every single diseased leaf while it was covered in blossom. It then went into spring again in June and I picked off very small fruits that would never reach maturity. It suffered from the heat waves but has produced well with two buckets of water a week.
This is a strange fact that the rose claims the pear as a relative as does the apple and various other fruit trees. There is said to be 3,000 varieties and it is mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey from the 9th century.
It takes 3 to 5 years for a tree to produce fruit, and the fruit is best left off the branch to ripen. The hostorical nickname butter fruit was given to it because of the soft melt in the mouth texture.
An oil jug and a plate of ‘then’ (long ago) holds now.
Travel a while with me and grace:

So what does grace do?
Titus is speaking: ‘the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all people, teaching us that denying worldly lusts and ungodliness we should live temperately/ quietly in a controled manner/ soberly, doing right in this present world.’
How do we find motivation for such a life?
‘ Looking for that blessed hope and glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.’
