This post ‘looks’ at the word ‘behold‘ briefly then at two serious thoughts but I will start with three quotes and two photographs.
The first is from Albert Einstein:
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
Then one from Winston Churchill:
The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see.
And one from C.S Lewis:
If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end, if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end despair.
Now this word behold. It is part of a long ago use of language. Malachi, the last of the Old Testament Bible prophets who lived about 400 BC used it and his meaning for it was like a command to use your eyes and your mind. He wanted what he was going to say next to be like a flashing yellow light which says pay attention.
So what was it he wanted to have us know? Here are the words:
Behold the day comes that will burn as an oven; and all the proud and all those who do wicked things will be stubble, and the day that comes will burn them up, says the LORD of Hosts that it will leave them neither root nor branch.
Then God offers protection to those who fear His name… but continues by saying this:
Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Mount Horeb/ Sinai for all Israel, with the statutes and judgements. ( the Ten Commandments Exodus 20.)
This warning in the last chapter of Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament then links with the same warning in the last book of the New Testament, Revelation 14:7
Fear God, and give glory to Him for the hour of His judgement is come.
And then from the very last chapter of Revelation Jesus is speaking:
Behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every person according as his works shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter the gates of the city.
Behold, look with your eyes and mind there is a yellow light flashing!
