Orange

A long time ago I bought an orange vase and a black vase from a charity shop. The lady volunteering was a landscape gardener and loved working with flowers. She went to the back of the shop brought this out and said: ‘ This and the black one will look lovely with flowers.’ At £5 for two I was pleased.

Here is the orange vase with Darwin Barberry to hold the daffodil stems. There hasn’t been wind but most of the garden daffidols are leaning down to the grass maybe they will pick up if the sun gives some warmth. It is grey and misty again.

Barberis darwinii Hook is an evergreen thorny shrub with dense branches from ground level. The orange flowers produce small purple black berries. Charles Darwin was the one who described it in 1835 and the RHS has given the species its Award of Garden Merit.

The two colour daffodil. The vase echos the crinkle of paper- like orange of the daffodil while the yellow petals seem to still be opening.

Three minniatures from one stem the third still opening this morning. It was good to be in the garden and bring these in.

Religion

Here is a question Jesus was asked:

‘ Why don’t your disciples wash properly?’ Meaning in the ceremonial way.

Jesus said: ‘ How you speak makes you dirty.’

The disciples wanted to understand this, so once they left the crowd they asked for an explanation.

This is how Jesus answered: ‘ Out of the emotions of the heart come thoughts which can be evil. He then lists these such as having sex with no commitment/adultry, murder as in wars and coming from hatred of someone, stealing, wanting what others have, deceiving other people into believing a lie and the list goes on. These evil things come from inside.’ Read it for yourself in Mark 7.

It is later that Paul says how best to cope with the imagination or use of your mind.

‘ Don’t watch the news too much.’

No, he doesn’t say it like that but this is what he does say to the Philippians :

‘ Think about these things: that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, things that have a good report that can be praised for being good.’ Philippians 4:8

And later Paul writing to the Romans says something about how strong the mind is:

‘ Don’t be conformed to this world: but be transformed by your mind being made new that it may prove what is the true and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.’ Romans 12:2

Then to the Corinthians he says this about our minds:

‘ For the weapons of our warfare are not sensual/lustful/carnal, but mighty in God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that praises itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.’ 2 Corinthians 10:5

Here are two quotes about the colour orange one from Vincent Van Gogh the other from Michel Gondry:

‘ There is no blue without yellow and orange.’

And

‘ Orange is an underrated colour, its the second most underrated colour to yellow.’

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
